Composer, Pianist

Bio

BIOGRAPHY

Composer and pianist William Rhodes enjoys writing music that defies the concept of genre by integrating aspects of many music styles anywhere from progressive rock to video game music to new music. He graduated from Virginia Tech in December of 2023 with a BA in Music Composition and a BS in Psychology and is a member of L2ork (The Linux Laptop Orchestra), a growing international community of computer musicians that are dedicated to creating live, server-based, electronic music in real-time while thousands of miles apart. William is also a member of Ivory Out of Time, an innovative new composer duo, with fellow composer and pianist Jacob Smith. Ivory Out of Time creates works for solo piano and chamber music that combines attributes of progressive rock with contemporary classical music. For the past decade, William has performed his compositions at the annual Little Red Benefit Concert and looks forward to doing so for many years in the future. His recent pieces include Tundra, for flute, violin, double bass, and percussion, which incorporates advanced rhythmic concepts and Massive, a piece written to utilize Ambisonics and point source audio in The Cube at Moss Arts Center. Some of William’s favorite artists include King Crimson, Boredoms, Franz Liszt, and Takashi Yoshimatsu. William has taken composition lessons from Charles Nichols, Tiffany Skidmore, and Eric Lyon and piano lessons from Gerry Diamond, Hsiang Tu, and Richard Masters.
